Description
Delicious savory pastries filled with a mixture of ground beef or sausage, cheddar cheese, and crumbled bacon.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 sheets puff pastry sheets
- 1 pound ground beef or sausage
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
- to taste salt
- to taste black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten for egg wash
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Cook the Filling: In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic; sauté until translucent. Add ground beef or sausage and cook until browned. Drain excess fat. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Prepare Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into squares (about 4×4 inches).
- Assemble Pastries: Place a spoonful of meat filling in the center of each pastry square. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the meat. Fold each square to form a triangle, enclosing the filling. Press the edges to seal and crimp with a fork.
- Add Toppings: Brush the top of each pastry with beaten egg. Sprinkle additional cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon on top.
- Bake: Place pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffy.
- Cool and Serve: Allow pastries to cool on a wire rack for a few minutes. Serve warm.
Notes
- Ensure the filling is cool before placing it on the pastry to prevent the pastry from becoming soggy.
- Experiment with different types of cheese or add spices for extra flavor.
- Use store-bought puff pastry for convenience, but ensure it is thawed properly before use.
- If you prefer crispy bacon, cook it in the oven or a skillet until crumbly.
