Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the onion into 1/2 inch thick rings, separating them gently.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, paprika, and black pepper.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together egg and milk until smooth.
  4. Combine the wet and dry mixtures into a thick batter.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Dip each onion ring in the batter, let excess drip off, and carefully lower into the oil.
  7. Fry in batches, turning once, until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes per side).
  8. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, you can double dip the onion rings.
  • Feel free to experiment with different spices in the batter for varied flavor.
