Description

A delicious and festive dish perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry or crescent roll dough
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs or oregano
  • Flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Cook Spinach: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add chopped spinach, cooking until wilted. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. Mix Filling: In a bowl, combine mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, cooled spinach mixture, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  4. Assemble the Tree: Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on the floured surface into a large triangle shape (like a Christmas tree). Spread the spinach and cheese mixture evenly over the triangle.

  5. Top Layer: Place the second sheet of puff pastry over the filling. Cut both sheets into a Christmas tree shape, removing excess dough.

  6. Create Branches: Cut horizontal lines on both sides of the tree shape, leaving a strip in the middle to serve as the trunk. Twist each cut strip gently.

  7. Brush and Season: Brush the entire tree with beaten egg. Sprinkle with dried Italian herbs or oregano.

  8. Bake: Place the tree on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.

Notes

  • Cheese Variations: Add some feta or goat cheese for extra flavor.

  • Herb Infusion: Adding fresh basil or parsley to the mix enhances the flavor.

  • Dipping Sauce: Serve with marinara or a creamy garlic dip for added taste.

  • Extras: You can sprinkle some chili flakes on top if you like a bit of heat.
